There are many events taking place in the Queen City this year for Canada Day, including alternatives to the traditional celebrations. Here are some of the free, family-friendly offerings in Regina over the long weekend:
The Lieutenant Governor’s Canada Day Celebration
Government House
July 1, 1 p.m – 4 p.m.
The main stage will include performances from a variety of dancers and musicians throughout the afternoon. Some seating will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Article contentOutdoor entertainment will feature dog sports, storybook princesses and superheroes and Saskatchewan Science Centre shows. There will also be Metis finger weaving, HMCS Queen bouncy castle, Girl Guides bubble blowing, and face painting all day.
Complimentary popcorn, barley sugar pops, lemonade and water will be available. Burgers, hot dogs, chips, snow cones and soft drinks can be purchased.
Festivities will be moved indoors if it rains.
Regina Canada Day
Wascana Place
July 1, Begins at 8:30 a.m.
A free pancake breakfast is taking place at the main stage from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., while supplies last.
Starting at 1:20 p.m., the stage will host performances from D’arcy Playground, The People, Big Bad Storm, Epic, Grimstone and Cory Marks.
Local entertainment can be enjoyed on the Family Fun Stage throughout the day.
The Classic Strongman Championship is returning for the 10th year in a row and events include arm-over-arm coach bus pull, overhead press medley, atlas stones, car deadlift for reps, keg toss, and super medley.
The event concludes with a fireworks display at 10:30 p.m.

Buffalo Meadows
June 30, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
July 1, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
July 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A mural will be painted at the Buffalo Meadows Park pool, and buffalo tracks will be painted on the sidewalk outside of the pool on Friday. A teepee raising will take place on the south side of Buffalo Meadows Park.
Saturday’s event begins with a pipe ceremony, followed by street murals and site setup while music and story telling start at 9 a.m. Face painting and art stations open at 10 a.m. There will be a buffalo feast of bannock tacos or taco in a bag for around 600 people at 11:45 a.m. The traditional powwow grand entry starts at 1p.m.
Sunday will also include a pipe ceremony, followed by storytelling. Six hundred bagged lunches will be handed out for a picnic in Buffalo Meadows Park. Face painting and a mini carnival begin at the same time. There will be live music Sunday afternoon and the weekend’s activities will conclude with a closing prayer at 3 p.m.
