All businesses conducting business within the City of Greenville are required to have a business license. Business licenses must be purchased each year by April 30 and are valid from May 1 to April 30.

New businesses cannot apply online; they must apply in person at City Hall, 206 S. Main Street.
The SC General Assembly passed the Business License Standardization Act, Act 176, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2022.
This year, Act 176 requires that all taxing jurisdictions use a standardized business license class schedule recommended by the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC) and adopted by the Director of the SC Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office. By Dec. 31 of every odd year, the City must adopt, by ordinance, the latest Standardized Business License Class Schedule.
Business owners who use a Regular Business License (non-contractors) can now renew online if the total payment is less than $99,000
You will be mailed your 2024 Business License Renewal form the first of February. Along with your gross revenue, all the information you need to calculate your tax fee will be located in the top-right corner of all renewal forms (or at the top of your current business license).
Visit revenue.greenvillesc.gov to fill out your renewal online.
Navigate to "Renew License and Pay Fees" to enter your license number and PIN, available at the top-right of your current renewal form (above). Note: your license number begins with the two-digit year of your existing license, "23." All license numbers start with the two-digit year and are followed by a 1-6 digit code. Example: "23-123456"
Complete your payment online with a credit card. Note: a credit card processing fee of 2.65% is assessed by a third party.
